EFT

Emotional Freedom Techniques/Tapping

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of psychological acupressure. It is based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture and is indicated for physical and emotional ailments. EFT simply uses tapping with the fingertips to input kinetic energy into specific meridian points (acupressure points) on the head and chest. This is done by the client while they are guided to talk about specific problems they have identified, such as: a traumatic event, an addiction, an illness, guilt, anxiety, grief, or pain. After accepting, expressing, validating, and releasing the emotion; goals and positive affirmations are used to focus on reframing to a resiliency mindset and reprograming any thinking distortions. EFT is evidence based for conditions like depression, anxiety, pain, and PTSD.

Clients begin with one-on-one counseling sessions to deal with multi-layered deeper issues which they need support navigating through. In 2 or 3 private sessions clients can learn the basics of tapping these acupressure points to start tapping at home for maintenance. Client’s report finding these techniques empowering and useful to manage stress, anxiety, or to cope with grief or release physical pain. Emily Yuen, LCSW uses motivational interviewing, tools from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), skills from dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and mindfulness practices like guided visualization and breathwork during therapy sessions.
