Bodywork Testimonials

Emily Yuen – Bodywork testimonial

In the Fall of 2005, I began receiving Asian Body Work treatments from Emily Yuen. My original goal was for treatment for my upper neck. During my time in the Army, I had developed a massive inflamed lump just under the occipital bone on my right side. The lump was very painful, caused headaches, and made concentration difficult. Before Emily, I had undergone another treatment called “Point Release Therapy.” The therapy involved injections of Lidocaine directly into the inflamed muscles. It worked, but only for a short time, no more than five months.

I began receiving treatments from Emily every six weeks. After the first treatment, I noticed a marked decrease in my headaches: the inflamed area began to shrink. After the third treatment, the inflammation was almost gone, taking the pain and headaches with it. I continued to receive treatments from Emily on a regular basis because I began to notice other benefits: I was more relaxed and could concentrate better; I had more energy; I was sleeping better; my grades improved; and nerve damage in one of my fingers began to heal.

When I was in the Army, I cut part of the tip of my right middle finger off in a fan. The cut was very deep, I could see the bone. After my finger healed, my doctor noticed it had healed hypersensitive and sent me to a specialist to explain why. The specialist informed me that my nerves had healed incorrectly and that he could either cut my nerve at the base of my finger, or I could learn to live without using the tip of my finger. I opted to keep the nerve and learn to live with the pain. The damage prevented me from using my finger to type, made writing difficult, and made some everyday tasks—like tightening a screw—difficult.

In the Spring of 2006, I noticed that I was using my finger tip when I was typing. Normally this would result in tremendous pain and nausea, but I felt nothing. I began to experiment with my finger tip, touching various things and using it like a normal person. The pain was gone: The nerve had healed over five years after my injury.

I continue to receive treatments from Emily because I know it has made my life better and helped me to become a better person. The treatments are fun, educational, and, above all, they help me grow.

I first came to Emily Yuen ten years ago when I was having terrible spasms in my lower back. Within just a few visits she got the spasms to subside and increased the range of motion in my lower back. I have continued to receive body work from her over the years and she has kept me pain free. Emily possesses a wealth of knowledge of holistic health. She is also a wonderful and caring person. She has my highest recommendations.

Sincerely,

D. S.

To Whom It May Concern:

Until being treated by Emily Yuen, I had never had a professional massage. I had a preconception that massage was a sensory indulgence. That’s okay but not my personal priority.

I was stuck by a car and flipped onto the street while walking. No broken bones or internal injuries, but I had bruises and abrasions. I walked, exercised, and iced the bruises to help clear them. Still I had multiple aches, pains, and stiffness. I had spoken with Emily before about Amma Bodywork Therapy and I thought perhaps a bodywork treatment would help. So with some hesitation I called Emily.

I would not hesitate again.

First she evaluated my daily life and suggested nutritional and behavioral patterns to increase my health. These were interesting and I believe helpful. We discussed my specific pains and problems. Then she gave me bodywork.

The effect was wonderful and welcome. I do not understand the principles of Asian massage, but part of the benefit may be due to Emily’s “healing hands.” Touch done properly seems as powerful as medicines. The tension of my injuries relaxed. I started to feel a bit depressed after my accident, but now my spirit lifted. The bodily insult of the collision was pacified and in some mysterious way I felt restored. Pain still existed, but was less significant. I slept soundly that night. Many specific aches were gone the next morning.

Massage was a novel and significant part of my recovery, very positive and inexpensive.

Emily Yuen was a knowledgeable, professional, caring and an excellent therapist. I am grateful for her services. I endorse her for anyone considering bodywork/massage therapy and whole body improvements. Current medical practices are very successful and I intend no slight to them. In my case Emily’s therapy complemented standard medical practices.

Respectfully offered,

Emily Yuen – Yoga testimonial

I started practicing yoga at the age of 46, which is an age when muscles stiffen quickly and are not happy to be stretched, initially. I chose Emily and Whispering Lotus because of the small class sizes and Emily’s terrific instruction, attitude and ceremonial style she brings to the class. Emily is a wonderfully patience, yet firm instructor, funny yet poignant.  I feel like I am in a safe and loving space when I attend class. When I first started I was rather inflexible.  After attending class only three or four times I was amazed with my added strength and flexibility. I feel ten years younger!
Thanks Emily and Whispering Lotus,
M. F.

Emily Yuen – nutrition class testimonial

Nutrition Class Recommendation:

Emily’s nutrition class *did* change my life – I’ve lost 45 pounds in the last 15 months and Emily’s class was a big part of that – its fun, informative and practical. I left knowing I could change my diet because I already had; she’ll have you cooking foods you can’t even pronounce and loving the result. Take this class!

I’m so very thankful for Emily’s experience and knowledge in nutrition. I was raised on a meat, potatoes and canned corn kind of diet. Now that I am older and have a family of my own I have realized the affects this diet has on my health and well-being. I came to Emily to get ideas of how to change my family’s diet and walked away with an understanding that this is not just a diet but a lifestyle change. I’m not afraid of food and the way it shapes my body anymore yet I’m excited everyday to see what foods I can try and see how they affect my mood, body size, health, and heart.

This class has been an invaluable aid for me in learning “how to eat”.  I used to have a very bland/repetitive diet which was not conducive to long term health.  I now have the tools I need to help “repair” my body rather than cause stress to my body. In fact, within the last few days, I’ve already prepared and eaten a more diverse and flavorful series of meals than I’ve ever eaten.  Who knew eating could be satisfying AND healthy?
